This Porsche 356 Speedster replica was assembled under prior ownership approximately five years ago and was acquired by the current owner from a dealer in Illinois shortly thereafter. The fiberglass body is finished in black and features a matching convertible soft top, side curtains, and boot cover, while the interior is trimmed in brown leather and incorporates a banjo-style steering wheel, lap belts, and a Sony Xplod CD stereo. Power comes from an air-cooled 1.6L flat-four equipped with dual Weber carburetors, a 123Ignition electronic distributor, and an A-1 Sidewinder exhaust system. Additional details include 15? chrome steel wheels, Pirelli tires, front disc brakes, EMPI dampers, and a four-speed manual transaxle. This 356 Speedster replica shows 5k miles and is now offered on dealer consignment as part of Mohr Imports’ UpShift Collection with a clean California title listing it as a 1964 VW.
The fiberglass body is fitted over a modified Volkswagen chassis and is finished in black with a matching convertible soft top, side curtains, and boot cover. Exterior details include headlight stone guards, driving lights, fender-mounted mirrors, gold-finished Porsche Speedster and Carrera badging, a single grille decklid, beehive taillights, a center-exit exhaust outlet, and body-color bumpers with rub strips.
The chrome 15? steel wheels wear matching hubcaps with stamped Wolfsburg crest logos and are mounted with 185/65 Pirelli P4 tires. The car rides on EMPI dampers, and stopping power is provided by front disc and rear drum brakes.
The fixed-back bucket seats are trimmed in brown leather, which extends to the dashboard pad, door panels, shifter and parking brake boots, and rear parcel shelf. Black square weave carpets line the footwells, and additional interior elements include an adjustable-height rearview mirror, lap belts, a passenger grab handle, a 12-volt charging outlet, and a Sony Xplod CD stereo.
The banjo-style steering wheel wears a “Sun and Moon” horn button and frames a central tachometer flanked by a 130-mph speedometer and a combination gauge for engine temperature and fuel level. The six-digit mechanical odometer shows 5k miles.
The air-cooled 1.6L flat-four utilizes an engine case sourced from a VW Type 2 equipped with dual Weber carburetors, a 123Ignition electronic distributor, an electric fuel pump, and an A-1 Sidewinder exhaust system.
Power is delivered to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transaxle.
The chassis number 146603816 shown above is consistent with a 1966 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia and matches the VIN on the California title, which lists it as a 1964 VW.
